Back in 2001, the Government of Haryana took a decisive step towards enhancing the zoological landscape of the state. They opted to close down the existing mini zoos scattered across the region, in favor of establishing more robust and well-structured zoos. This initiative included the creation of a zoo within the Tilyar Lake complex in Rohtak.
A Transformation for Wildlife and Visitors Alike
The transformation was comprehensive. Enclosures were meticulously crafted to provide comfortable and safe habitats for the diverse range of animals, while aviaries were constructed to cater to our feathered friends. But it didn’t stop there. The visitor experience was also taken into careful consideration.
Strolling through the grounds, you’d find thoughtfully designed landscapes, well-marked walkways and trails leading to intriguing discoveries. Lush gardens, gentle hillocks, and even artificial waterfalls were added to create a serene ambiance. For those in need of a break, there’s a cozy café and convenient visitor toilets. Shaded resting shelters and elevated watch towers were strategically placed for optimal viewing pleasure. Thirsty? Fear not, as drinking water facilities were thoughtfully installed to keep visitors refreshed.
A Home for a Diverse Wildlife Family
Now, let’s talk about the vibrant inhabitants of this zoo. From the majestic Tiger to the elusive Leopard, a rich variety of wildlife calls this sanctuary home. You’ll also encounter the sly Fox, the formidable Hyena, and the enigmatic Wolf. Aquatic species like the Gharial and the Mugger can be spotted basking by the water’s edge. Inquisitive Jackals, playful Otters, and nimble Pig-tailed monkeys add to the lively atmosphere.
Moving to the primate section, there’s the wise Baboon, the charming Bonnet macaque, and the agile Gray langur. For the herbivores, the Sambhar, Blackbuck, Chinkara, Indian hog deer, and Barking deer roam freely. And let’s not forget the feathered inhabitants – the vibrant Guineafowl, the regal Silver pheasant, the graceful Fantail pigeon, and the cheerful Cockatiel. Rounding out the ensemble, the melodious Zebra finch lends its song to the symphony of wildlife.
